We want this site to be usable by as many people as possible, and we aim to meet the WCAG 2.2 AA standard.

Keyboard and focus

Every link, button, filter and form field can be reached and operated with a keyboard, and shows a clearly visible amber focus outline. A skip link at the top of each page jumps straight to the main content. The mobile menu can be closed with the Escape key, and returns focus to the button that opened it.

Motion

If your device or browser is set to reduce motion, the site respects that: background videos do not autoplay and show a still poster frame instead, the scrolling marquees stop, and hover zoom effects on images are switched off. Otherwise, videos play muted and on loop, and can be ignored safely. They are decorative and hidden from screen readers.

Structure and text

Pages use one main heading and a logical heading order. Colour is never the only way meaning is conveyed. Text reflows at high zoom without horizontal scrolling, and meaningful images carry descriptive alternative text while decorative ones are hidden from assistive technology.

Known limitations

This is a new site and we’re still refining it. Some archival photography carries shorter descriptions while we complete the picture library.
